North Carolina has again set a new record for the number of businesses that are creating in one year. New business creations in 2021 have outpaced every other year on record, according to N.C. Secretary of State Elaine F. Marshall.

North Carolina and Business Filing

The previous record for one-year new business filings was 2020, with 127,000 new businesses being filing with N.C. Secretary of State’s Business Registration Division.

“Actually, North Carolina is a hotbed of the folks that are eager and then willing to make their own way no matter what is the pandemic does throw their way,” said Secretary of State Elaine Marshall. “In fact, this is the second year in a row that is what many of our friends and neighbors have gone and shown they have the drive and the determination to start their own business, and there is a big boost to our state and local economies.”

Also, the business creations have more than doubled from 2017, that is when there were fewer than 84,000 new businesses created.

Moreover, the Department of the Secretary of State has gone and created a Web Wizard. It would help the citizens form their businesses without errors. It would greatly increase the pace of new business approval.

“There is a goal for the businesses to get up and then run as soon as possible. Also, to give them every opportunity to be successful,” Marshall said. “In fact, there are technological advances that have made it easier for businesses. Also, they have allowed the agency to keep up with the quick pace of filings.”

The department has surveyed new businesses that have created one recently. Plus two and three years ago with 90% saying they were still in operation.
