Choose the trucking training method that works for you

June 20, 2019

Training is an important part of any job. Trucking is no exception to this.

However, when training as a trucker, there are unique challenges to face. For instance, each driver has their own specific learning style. Furthermore, there are different driving styles that vary depending on the type of truck, weather and road conditions, cargo being carried, etc. Therefore, it’s important to take the time to learn which training method will work best for you.

Online vs. Traditional Training

Do you want to make the most of your time off the road? Consider beefing up the training section of your resume. Essentially, there are two types of training: Online, and traditional.

Online training is a pretty new type of training. Still, it might be useful and easier to complete for certain truckers. Are you are juggling raising a family with your job, or do you have a second part-time job? Online training may be the best option for you.

You simply need to devote time to the class when you can. Furthermore, you’ll need reliable access to a computer and internet. Online training is accessible and flexible, making it an ideal choice for many truckers.

Still, many truckers prefer traditional training methods. Some say there’s no replacement for the hands-on learning of actually sitting in a truck while being trained. Furthermore, you’ll be able to participate more easily and ask more specific questions of the instructor.

However, traditional training will take up more of your time. Moreover, it may cost a lot to commute to the training.

Ultimately, the decision is up to you. Weigh the pros against the cons, and see which choice best suits your lifestyle and needs.
